General Information of UST (University of Santo Tomas)
The University of Santo Tomas
(UST) is a Dominican institution of learning, founded on April 28, 1611 in Intramuros, Manila (the original
site of UST before moving to Espana, Manila). UST moved to its current location
during the start of the 20th century. UST is the oldest existing university in
Asia under the patronage of St. Thomas Aquinas. UST is the only pontifical
university in the Philippines and UST is also a royal university, given by the
monarchy of the kingdom of Spain. UST was established by Fr. Miguel Benavides
O.P. He just wanted to establish a library and from that, UST grew to a
university. UST offer 4 levels of education; Junior High School, Education High
School, Senior High School and College. All of students and staffs in UST
called their self as Thomasian and we had a good chance to be called as
Thomasian because we have an internship in UST Junior High School for 3 weeks.
There are 8 faculties, 9 colleges, 2 institutes and 1 Conservatory of
Music in UST. My buddy told me that if a faculty already founded over a hundred years it will be called as
"Faculty", but if it is less than a hundred years it is called as
"Colleges"
